Year 1 have been observing the seasonal changes in spring. Outside, we saw leaves, blossom, plants and more ladybirds!

Year 4 have been learning about winter in Switzerland. We located Switzerland on a world map and discovered it is in Europe. The children also researched what Switzerland is famous for, including the Alps, delicious Swiss chocolate and winter sports like skiing. Maple class did some outdoor learning last week as part of our winter season’s day. We went on a sensory walk and investigated what we could hear, see and feel. We also investigated the plants and trees outside and what happens to them during the winter season. This week, Year 1 has been busy building sentences about the Inuit people and their way of life. We are very proud of our work!

This week, Year 1 have been busy learning all about the Arctic climate and what it is like there in summer and winter. The children learnt some interesting facts and were amazed by how different the seasons can be.

In Geography, Beech class have assumed the role of news anchors, reporting on weather phenomena that occur in North America. Different groups reported on hurricanes, tornadoes and floods.

In Geography this week, Year 3 researched the different climate zones within Canada. They particularly enjoyed finding out about the different animals that live in the Arctic and how climate change is affecting this important area.

As geographers, the children in Year 1 have located the countries in the United Kingdom on a map. We have used atlases and jigsaws to help!

As part of our project on the changing seasons, Year 4 has been delving into the intricacies of autumn in Canada. We explored essential information about the nation, identified the unique features that make Canadian autumns remarkable, and contrasted how this season appears and feels in Canada compared to the UK.

This week, year 6 have been looking at ordnance survey maps of Great Horton from 1848 to see how land was used during the early Victorian period. They also looked at a bird’s eye view of the same area to find similarities and differences. Can you spot the location of our school on both maps?
