Wellbeing

The physical and mental well being of our pupils is incredibly important.  We have lots of ways in which we support both our children and staff to ensure that they are healthy and happy.

At Brackenhill, we recognise the importance of enabling pupils to be resilient and supporting good mental health and wellbeing. We support and promote positive mental health and wellbeing in the following ways:

  • Prevention: creating a safe and calm environment where mental health problems are less likely, improving the mental health and wellbeing of the whole school population, and equipping pupils to be resilient so that they can
  • manage the normal stress of life effectively. This will include teaching pupils about mental wellbeing through the curriculum and reinforcing this teaching through school activities and ethos.
  • Identification: recognising emerging issues as early and accurately as possible.
  • Early support: helping pupils to access evidence based early support and interventions.
  • Access to specialist support: working effectively with external agencies to provide swift access or referrals to specialist support and treatment.

Our Pastoral Team

Miss Thomas and Miss Lawrence work with our pupils to help support both their mental and physical health.  Both members of staff are available throughout the day and are on hand if our pupils need them.  Miss Lawrence is also our Mental Health Champion and provides support for staff as well as pupils.  If you see them around school, please make sure you say hello.

Mental Health Support Team

On a Wednesday, NHS professionals from the Bradford and Craven Mental Health Support Team work with identified children across school with low level social and emotional needs.  Parents and class teachers are supported to work together to provide a consistent approach both at home and at school.  The children meet with a member of the team every week and work to develop strategies to manage their wellbeing.
